Funnels for eCommerce brands

An ecommerce funnel that raises order value, not just traffic

An ecommerce funnel is how a brand turns a scroll into a first order and a first order into a customer. Most stores send paid traffic to a product page and hope. The brands in our case studies use dedicated landing pages, bundles, order bumps, post-purchase upsells and server-side tracking, which is how one Shopify store reached $2.3M in sales at an 11.6x return on ad spend.
Quick answer

What is an ecommerce funnel?

It is the path from ad to purchase and repeat purchase: a focused landing or advertorial page, a product page with bundles, a checkout with an order bump, a one-click post-purchase upsell, then email and SMS flows for abandoned carts and replenishment. Every step is tracked through the Conversions API.

From ad to checkout

Cold traffic converts better on a page built for the ad's promise than on a generic product page. The funnel we build for most DTC brands:

  1. Landing page or advertorial that continues the ad's story and handles objections.
  2. Offer page with bundles (one, two or three units) so the default choice raises order value.
  3. Checkout with a relevant order bump.
  4. Post-purchase upsell offered once, with one click.

For digital products and info offers, the same idea becomes a low-ticket funnel: our $847K front end sold a $27 product with a $17 bump and recovered 112% of ad spend on day zero.

Tracking that feeds the algorithm

Browser pixels miss a growing share of purchases. Our Meta Conversions API setup sends purchases, values and add-to-carts from the server and recovered 31% more events in our audits. With accurate purchase values, Meta can optimize for revenue rather than clicks, which is the difference between a store that scales and one that stalls.

Retention flows

The first order rarely makes the profit; the second and third do. Abandoned cart and browse flows, a post-purchase education sequence, replenishment reminders timed to how long the product lasts, and win-back offers all run automatically. The email nurture sequence template is a good starting structure.

ROAS ranges from our store clients

Our Shopify and DTC case studies mostly land between 4x and 5x return on ad spend at scale: $1M+ at 4.6x, $449,221 in 49 days at 4.2x, and $1.6M at 4.2x. Outliers include $2.3M at 11.6x. A summary of the store results is on the eCommerce case page.

Ecommerce funnel mistakes

  • Sending all ads to the homepage.
  • Upsells unrelated to the first purchase.
  • Judging ads on the pixel alone when server events are missing.
  • Discount-led creative that trains customers to wait for sales.

If you want the whole path built and tested for you, that is what our sales funnel agency service covers.

Frequently asked questions.

What ROAS should an ecommerce funnel hit?

It depends on margins. Most of our Shopify and DTC clients scaled at 4x to 5x return on ad spend, with outliers such as $2.3M at 11.6x. A brand with thin margins may need 3x to break even, while high-margin products can scale profitably below that. Calculate your break-even first.

Do I need a landing page or is the product page enough?

For warm and returning traffic, the product page is often fine. For cold traffic, a landing page or advertorial that matches the ad's angle usually converts better because it answers objections before showing the price. Test both on the same ad and compare cost per purchase.

What is an order bump in ecommerce?

An order bump is a small, related add-on offered with a checkbox on the checkout page, such as a second unit, a refill or a protection plan. It adds to order value without an extra step. Combined with a one-click post-purchase upsell, it can noticeably raise average order value.

Why does ecommerce need the Conversions API?

Ad blockers, browser privacy changes and app tracking limits mean the browser pixel misses purchases. Sending purchases from the server through the Conversions API gives Meta more complete data. In our audits, server-side setup recovered 31% more events, which improves optimization and reporting.

Do you build on Shopify?

Most of our store clients run on Shopify, and we build landing pages, bundles, bumps, upsells and tracking around it. Digital products and low-ticket offers often run on ClickFunnels or GoHighLevel for the checkout flexibility. We choose the platform based on what the offer needs.
